A fire destroyed two cars and damaged a house at 3 Curtis Ave. on Tuesday afternoon.

The blaze, which broke out in one of the vehicles, quickly spread to the second before igniting an exterior wall of the single-family home, Chief Ed McCue said.

One person was home when the blaze erupted about 2 p.m., but the occupant escaped without injury, McCue said. No firefighters were hurt.

Both vehicles were parked within a foot of the structure, and firefighters received "multiple calls" from area residents reporting the fire, the chief said.

"We knocked it down pretty quick," McCue said, adding a check of the interior of the house revealed that the flames hadn't penetrated the outside wall.

"The house is all right, but the cars aren't," McCue said. "You can shoot their tires and put them out of their misery."
